Jill Andrews, director of development and external relations at the School of Information, reports from Boston where a reception was held Wednesday, April 8 for alumni and members of the SI contingent attending the ACM CHI Conference:
Tom Finholt, SI professor and associate dean for research and innovation, delivered a brief talk with lots of great photos and images (our favorite kind of presentation!) about the School to a standing-room-only crowd last evening. We lost count around 60 people. The room was packed with animated, exuberant alumni and friends who wasted no time catching up with each other. About 130 SI alumni live in the Boston area, and many of them joined the SI students and faculty CHI participants here in Boston for refreshments following a long day of meetings.
SI alumna Janet Stewart (AMLS ’72), who works at University of Massachusetts Boston Library, briefly described massBLAST, an opportunity for area alumni to engage and mentor high school students for internships. People from as far away as New Zealand, Denmark, Germany and Singapore joined us. Many more were from universities and corporations in Michigan, California, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Texas.
